Commissioner Power Rankings - Week 12 (2017)

Another year, another playoff race and another excellent time a BWW (BBW if you’re Mike) full of fried chicken, artificial flavoring, beer/margaritas/“not so long island” iced teas, and comments about poop via group chat and chatsnap.

I felt like this week is a special week - it’s the final week that all 10 teams will have a chance to make the playoffs. So we’re going to do the rankings differently this week. I’m going to order the teams in order of likeliness to make the playoffs BUT REVERSED because I think it’s time that @PaulDawg is #1!

Week 12 (List of Teams That Is Not Necessary the) Power Rankings

  1. Mack n Cheesin’ ALL DAY - @PaulDawg . What a Monday night game. Tevin Coleman had a TD taken away that could have changed how the game finished out. Now Paul is out to pull the craziest fantasy run known to mankind. He’s promised Kenny Stills he won’t bench him, the Jags D is rearing to go and we’re gonna see how this plays out. How does Paul make the playoffs? He needs to win out (v. Garrett and Mike Stock) making him 6-7. He then needs Mike, Ian A, and Andrew V to all lose out, meaning that they are 5-8 to end the season. That would guarantee him a spot. If any of those teams wins both of their games, Paul is likely out, unless either Melton, Jon, or Chasen lose out and then it would be a PF battle. It requires a lot of moving parts, but Paul is still in it and this week will determine if his playoff dream is still alive. (Last Week’s Rank: 7. Trending UP 6)

  2. Hemingway’s Horde - @gbhart . Garrett’s playoff scenario is exactly the same as Paul’s. He needs to win out and wants all the 5-6 teams to lose out. The reason these scenarios are in place without requiring PF necessarily is because none of the 5-6 teams play each other in these last three games - which would have created a scenario where one team was guaranteed 6 wins. So there is a world where Mike, Ian, Ventura, and one of the 4-7 teams doesn’t go to playoffs, but one of the current 4-7 teams is in. Can Hopkins (WR1) and Kamara (RB7) carry Garrett to victory? We shall see in a week’s time! (Last Week’s Rank: 9. Trending UP 7)

  3. I Need One TD Dance - @ventura . Currently lowest in PF for the 5-6 teams, this team needs at least one win to be a playoff team. With one win and IanA+Mike losing out, they would be in a PF tiebreaker with one of the 4-7 teams. It would be very likely that this team would because they have a 78.7 PF lead over the next team. If Andrew wins 2 GAMES and neither Ian nor Mike win more than 1 game, Andrew will be in the playoffs guaranteed. In the event of a tiebreaker with either of the 5-6 teams for the final spot, Ventura would rather be tied with Ian A than Mike, as the 21.1 PF deficit with two weeks left is easier than a 95.5 deficit. If somehow this team could go to the finals, Zeke is expected back week 16. Now that would be a story… (Last Week’s Rank: 10. Trending UP 7)

  4. No Time to Run or Hyde - @ianamunrud . A preseason favorite is ready to make a final push for the playoffs and to secure a good draft spot while he is at it. This team faces the 2nd place team in the standings followed by the 9th place team. If they win one game and Mike+Ventura lose out, they would likely win a tiebreaker with Paul if necessary to make the playoffs. If they win two games and Mike+Ventura win no more than one a piece, this team is in the playoffs. The same scenarios apply as Ventura. While it seems like this team is fighting for the sixth spot, there are scenarios that they could be as high as third if they win out and specific combinations of 6-5 and 5-6 teams lose plus PF tiebreakers. The player matchups aren’t great this week, but this team is a resilient one! (Last Week’s Rank: 5. Trending UP 1)

  5. Brandon McManus - @mikeastock . The PF leading team of the 5-6 squads, this team currently holds the final playoff spot, but needs to earn it still in the coming weeks. The playoff scenarios for this team are nearly identical as Ventura’s and Ian’s. If this team wins out and holds its PF lead (currently at 74.4), they are guaranteed a playoff spot. Like I said above, even though it seems like Mike is playing for sixth, this team could get as high as third, but even crazier - if they win out (finishing 7-6) and Alex loses out, he could surpass Alex’s team for second. Though second place is highly unlikely, because in that scenario this team would have the same record as Melton, but currently has a 77.4 PF deficit. With Russell Wilson on fire and Gurley at RB1, this team has a legitimate playoff chance. It’s scary to think where this team would be if Rodgers wasn’t injured… (Last Week’s Rank: 8. Trending UP 3)

  6. This no Fun(chess) - @chasenrogers . With a victory in the final minutes of Monday night, Chasen has taken his team that much closer to a playoff berth. If Ian A and Andrew V lose out, this team is all but guaranteed a playoff spot (the only team that could take the spot would be Garrett, but the PF difference would likely land in Chasen’s favor). One victory in the next two weeks has a similar effect, they would be all but in the playoffs. However, every 5-6 team has equal or greater PF than this team does. Barring some high scoring weeks, this team is currently set up to lose any PF tiebreakers. This next matchup with Stock is a very important game for Chasen as he seeks that magical 7th win. The advantages this team has: Wentz (QB2), Fournette only has one single-digit score in games he has played, Alfred Morris might be useful after all this time of holding onto him, Latavius Murray might still be the guy in Minnesota, and two top-10 WRs. (Last Week’s Rank: 6. Weeks at #6: 2)

  7. Santa Barbara Sailors - @jonathan . Another preseason favorite, this team has fared well considering it lost OBJ. A single win would all but lock in this team as they are currently 3rd in PF. Even if this team lost out, there is only one bizarre scenario where they wouldn’t make playoffs in which Mike, Ventura, and Ian A all win out, plus Melton wins one (losing to Ventura), and Chasen wins one (losing to Mike). I believe this is literally the only scenario that Jon would not make playoffs and all of it would be set aside with a single win. Newton, Hunt, AB, and Landry have some great matchups heading into this week. (Last Week’s Rank: 3. Trending DOWN 4)

  8. Team Jujubes - @awmelman . Don’t look now, but Melton is third in the standings and sitting pretty in line for a playoff spot. Like Jon, a single win locks things down (in a practical sense because of PF). The same bizarre scenario that Jon misses playoffs applies for Melton (Melton losing out, all 5-6 teams winning both games, and all current 6-5 teams winning just one game which creates five teams at 7-6). This team is also currently 2nd in PF and should win most any tiebreaker it needs to. This team’s advantages this week like in two soft matchups for RBs as well as a good matchup for Kirk Cousins. Onward and upward! (Last Week’s Rank: 2. Trending DOWN 6)

  9. Hooked on a Thielen - @Alex . 4th in PF, but top two in the standings. The worst and weirdest case for this team I will mention for the next team. Alex will keep moving forward with the Pats. Will McCaffrey be Carolina’s lead back down the stretch? That may play a huge role in this team’s success. (Last Week’s Rank: 1. Trending DOWN 8)

  10. Commissioner Swag - @IanC . Ok. Get this:
There is a scenario where we could have EIGHT 7-6 teams. This scenario is scarier for Alex’s team (4th in PF) than this team (1st in PF), but still a bizarre one. There is only one way this happens and it obviously knocks out Garrett and Paul, but check this:

Alex and Ian C lose out (to IA/AM and JC/CR respectively)
Melton loses to Ventura, but then beats Alex
Ventura beats Melton and Jon C
Chasen loses to Mike, but beats Ian C
Ian A beats Alex and Garrett
Jon beats Ian C, but loses to Ventura
Mike beats Chasen and Paul
Garrett and Paul lose both games : (

In this scenario we have EIGHT 7-6 teams and our eight-way tie would be decided entirely by PF. That’d be insane.
(Last Week’s Rank: 4. Trending DOWN 6)

Obviously I’m not wishing for that last scenario to occur, but it’d be pretty nuts. Here we go, it’s playoff time and the final week for all teams to be competing for a playoff spot. Be a true gentleman and put forth your best lineup no matter what. It’s what Hugh Jackman would do.
I love you guys and I am so stoked nine of us got to hang out at this past weekend. Have a blessed Thanksgiving!!
