Commissioner Quarterly v2 (2021) – Weeks 5-7
A week late on this one, but the data is still good to correspond with the mid-point of our regular season. This post can be used to compare with the other Commissioner Quarterly’s to track league and player progress.
Link to v1: Commissioner Quarterly v1 (2021)
Welcome to the Commissioner Quarterly, a segment provided to you by the Commish as a snapshot into our fantasy football season. While regular rankings and analysis from our other leaguemates serve to provide excellent insight and (often humorous) commentary into our league, this segment will be used to capture our league season in segments, focusing on the storylines within our fantasy league and the NFL. Should this segment continue into the future, it can serve as a bit of a time capsule when looking back at the season.
Below you will find the quarterly update on THE JACKMAN, some light NFL news, and stats on which players were most successful at this point in the season. Looking back here as we get to the halfway and ultimate completion of the season it will be fun to see which players dominated for a full year and which were a flash in the pan for a few weeks.
JACKMAN League
League Storylines:
- Jon and IanA sit atop the standings at 6-1 apiece.
- The only team in the near vicinity is Chasen’s squad at 5-2
- Jon’s squad has benfitted greatly from Cooper Kupp’s continued ridiculous performance as WR1 on the year. Austin Ekeler and Darrell Henderson haven’t been pushovers as well.
- IanA’s squad has been led by Derrick Henry and Ja’Marr Chase – who has proven worthy of 1st overall in the 2021 draft.
- Chasen’s squad has been buoyed by solid WR play (Lamb, Metcalf, Moore)
- AndrewM and IanC’s squads are tied up (3-4), but are trending in opposite directions.
- Mike S’s squad is continually getting the short end of the stick. While the team is underperforming, it’s not as bad as the standings would have you believe.
- It’s Paul’s team vs. everybody. At the halfway point, everybody’s winning.

Major trades
- Mike S trades Mike Evans to Jon C for a ’22 1st and a ’23 2nd
Best FA Acquisitions:
- Mike S – Darrel Williams RB
- AlexJ – D’Ernest Johnson RB (subbing in for Chubb/Hunt he went off for 22.80pts)
- JonC – Dawson Knox TE
Worst FA Acquisitions:
- Ok this is a mean section that I’m maybe thinking about doing
- But the answer this time is pretty much all the FA/waiver WRs that don’t do anything…
NFL
NFL Storylines:
- The NFC is stacked
- Cardinals start 7-0!
- Rams, Bucs, Packers start 6-1
- Cowboys start 5-1
- Titans, Raiders, Ravens, Bengals (all 5-2), and the Bills (4-2) are the teams to beat in the AFC
- The Chiefs are… average at best?
- Jon Gruden steps away from the league after numerous emails that he sent were leaked that included racist, homophobic, and other derogatory remarks.
- Russel Wilson injures hand and misses first starts of his career after surgery.
- Other injuries: Saquon Barkley, Chris Carson, Rob Gronkowski,
- Kliff Kingsbury, Davante Adams, among big names to miss games due to COVID
- Calvin Ridley takes a break from football
- Rookie QBs watch:
- Trevor Lawrence: mostly meh, but improving from the first few weeks
- Zach Wilson still hasn’t found it
- Justin Fields looks lost everytime he plays
- Mac Jones is doing ok, actually still
- Trey Lance is sitting for now.
- Davis Mills…. Ups and downs. Generally uninspiring.
