Hey gents and welcome to another season of fantasy football. With the kickoff of the first regular season game a day away, I thought it would be a good time to look at some fun facts from super bowls of season past, and see if we can glean and insight into this years Big Game.

  1. Only three Linebackers have ever won the coveted Super Bowl MVP award. Chuck Howley (V), Ray Lewis (XXXV), and Malcolm Smith (XLVIII).
  2. No Linebacker has repeated as Super Bowl MVP, consecutive or other.
  3. Quarterbacks account for 44.8% of all Super Bowl MVPs.
  4. Only 5 quarterbacks have been selected MVP more than once: Bart Starr (I,II) Terry Bradshaw (XIII, XIV), Joe Montana (XVI, XIX, XXIV), Tom Brady (XXXVI, XXXVIII), and Eli Manning (XLII, XLVI).
  5. In fact, quarterback is the only position to have repeated as Super Bowl MVP, and no MVP has been able to win a Super Bowl more than 5 seasons after their previous victory.
  6. The Average winning score of a Super Bowl is 30, with the average losing score being 16.
  7. The most frequent winning score is 27, and the most frequent losing score is 17
  8. The combined winning teams have outscored the combined losing teams 1,455 to 757, or a score differential of 698 points (Almost makes Super Bowl XLVIII look not so bad…almost).
  9. The first 11 Super Bowls were hosted by college football stadiums.
  10. Because every list needs an even number, In the numbers 1, 4, and 5 biggest blowouts of Super Bowl history, the Broncos have been outscored a total of 140 to 28. Yes, you saw that right, 28. In those three loses they failed score more than 10 points in a single game.
