Commissioner Quarterly v1 (2021)

Commissioner Quarterly v1 (2021)

Welcome to the first ever Commissioner Quarterly, a segment provided to you by the Commish as a snapshot into our fantasy football season. While regular rankings and analysis from our other leaguemates serve to provide excellent insight and (often humorous) commentary into our league, this segment will be used to capture our league season in segments, focusing on the storylines within our fantasy league and the NFL. Should this segment continue into the future, it can serve as a bit of a time capsule when looking back at the season.

Below you will find the quarterly update on THE JACKMAN, some light NFL news, and stats on which players were most successful at this point in the season. Looking back here as we get to the halfway and ultimate completion of the season it will be fun to see which players dominated for a full year and which were a flash in the pan for a few weeks.

JACKMAN League

League Storylines:
• Jon Cook’s squad is off to a perfect start at 4-0 with notable success from Cooper Kupp and Austin Ekeler.
• AndrewM is tied for 2nd with IanA despite one of these teams being favored far more heavily in the preseason rankings. Melton’s tank year isn’t going as expected in no small part to the success of Kirk Cousins and Deebo Samuel. In fact, despite having his best RB at RB16 (Gibson), Melton is 3-1 with a very strong WR squad.
• Two highly ranked teams in the preseason, MikeS and IanC, find themselves at the bottom of the standings 4 weeks in at 0-4 and 1-3 respectively. Both are middle-of-the-pack in PF (seen below). Note Mike’s PA in the section below.
• The random schedule had generally been fair all year until Week 4 when the weekly 1st place team had to play the weekly 3rd place team.
• It’s a year of BIG CHANGES in the JACKMAN league outside of fantasy football. Our first 3 JACKMAN babies were announced in addition to 2.5 house purchases. That’s a way to kick off a year!!

• Andrew Deal: Amari Cooper for Rashod Bateman and a ’22 1st

Best FA Acquisition:
• PaulM – Derek Carr in Week 3
• BONUS: Bears D/ST and Bengals D/ST just before gameday by IanC and IanA on Weeks 2 & 3 respectively.

Worst FA Acquisitions:
• Ok this is a mean section that I’m now deciding not to do
• But the answer was anyone that picked up an RB that didn’t get more than a few touches. There’s quite a few of those.

NFL

NFL Storylines:
• Arizona Cardinals start 4-0
• Raiders, Broncos, and Panthers start 3-0 and lose week 4
• Packers look dead week 1 and turn it up 3 consecutive weeks
• NFC West starts off as the strongest division
• RECORD FG made (66 yards) by Justin Tucker after doinking off the cross bar
• ^ same day RECORD TYING FG return for a TD 109-yard ties the longest play (and is the longest possible play) in NFL history.
• Tom Brady goes back to New England and beats Bill Belichik (Ok, Tom didn’t go crazy, but his team won)
• Rookie QBs underwhelm in first 4 weeks:
• Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson compete for who can throw the most picks
• Justin Fields looks lost his first week as a starter
• Mac Jones is doing ok, actually
• Trey Lance might be starting soon after some special play usage
• Davis Mills…. Well. Yeah.
• Taylor Heinicke (filling in for Fitzmagic) looks better than all the rookie QBs listed above
• Cordarrelle Patterson??? (see lists below)
