Commissioner Quarterly v5 (2021) Weeks 15-17

Commissioner Quarterly v5 (Weeks 15-17, 2021)

Welcome to the Commissioner Quarterly, a segment provided to you by the Commish as a snapshot into our fantasy football season. While regular rankings and analysis from our other leaguemates serve to provide excellent insight and (often humorous) commentary into our league, this segment will be used to capture our league season in segments, focusing on the storylines within our fantasy league and the NFL. Should this segment continue into the future, it can serve as a bit of a time capsule when looking back at the season.

Below you will find the quarterly update on THE JACKMAN, some light NFL news, and stats on which players were most successful at this point in the season. Looking back here as we get to the halfway and ultimate completion of the season it will be fun to see which players dominated for a full year and which were a flash in the pan for a few weeks.

– JACKMAN League –

League Storylines:

  • Another year wrapped up in THE JACKMAN’s story. COVID still had a notable presence over the course of the season and some of the players helping playoff pushes may have been a surprise to some folks.
  • Big trades from the end of the regular season couldn’t stop the two JACKMAN finalists - IanA and JonC

Final Playoff Standings:

  1. IanA
  2. Jon
  3. Chasen
  4. Garrett
  5. IanC
  6. Alex
  7. AndrewV
  8. Mike
  9. Paul
  10. AndrewM

Note: Sleeper does not calculate PF/PA/MaxPF in playoffs, so the #’s from the last Commish Quarterly are what will display for us.

Major trades:

  • IanC and AndrewV - Julio + pick 2.01 + pick 2.05 for Amari Cooper
  • IanA and Mike - Laviska Shenault + pick 4.10 for Antonio Brown

Best FA Acquisition:

  • Not a lot picks at this point in the season…
  • IanC - Rahsaad Penny
  • IanA - Duke Johnson… the guy had two games of 18+ points! One of them just happened to be week 18

Worst FA Acquisitions:

  • Still a mean section but…
  • Any move JonC made those last two playoff weeks…because D’Onta Foreman was the play to make!

– NFL –

NFL Storylines:

  • Major Injury News:
    • Christian McCafferey out for season (ankle)
    • TJ Hockenson out rest of season
    • DeAndre Hopkins goes to IR, ending his season
    • D’Andre Swift out except the final games
    • Lamar Jackson remains out
    • Daniel Jones & Sterling Shepard to IR, ending their seasons
    • Donald Parham to IR
    • James Robinson tears achilles Week 16.
    • Darrell Henderson to IR
    • Adam Thielen to IR
  • Legendary coach and broadcaster John Madden passes away prior to Week 17.
  • Urban Meyer fired after Week 14’s loss. Meyer is also accused of… kicking his kicker?
  • Antonio Brown just… walks off the field? See ya.
  • Cleveland Browns have a huge COVID outbreak - game needs to be pushed back
  • In fact 3 NFL games got moved Week 15 due to COVID (LVR vs. CLE // WFT vs. PHI // SEA vs. LAR)
  • Washington Football Team investigation continues…
  • Saints shut out Brady in Week 15 - first time for TB12 in 16 years.
  • Cards get wrecked by the… Lions?!
  • Kyle Pitts is the second rookie TE to ever reach 1K receiving yards
  • Rookie QBs watch:
    • Trevor Lawrence: well… there was a lot left to be desired after this rookie campaign. The Jaguars were a mess though, so it’s impossible to point just one finger at the results.
    • Zach Wilson played way better in the second half of the year than the first half. Definitely not a top QB in his rookie year, but there were flashes.
    • Justin Fields in many ways played more inspiring football than Lawrence in his rookie campaign, but has a similar issue where it’s hard to look at Nagy’s coaching, the Bear’s offense, and Fields’ individual play as to why things didn’t turn out amazing on the field.
    • Mac Jones ended up being the most consistent rookie QB and played at a higher level than most thought he would in his rookie year.
    • Trey Lance’s time may be coming in 2022.
    • Davis Mills … well… he did OK. Which is impressive in it’s own sense.
  • And just after these fantasy weeks concluded A LOT OF HC COACHING JOBS OPENED in the NFL.
